I moved to the West Coast a little over a month ago and to be completely honest, the first couple of weeks were are bit harder than I had initially expected. I naïvely thought I would dive straight into my life here and be productive starting from day one. Reality check – I’m still the exact same person with the same doubts and insecurities and my daily routine didn’t change overnight. Although I’m still beyond grateful to get to get to live here, being in a music hub like this one has triggered two conflicting thoughts:
“Wow there are so many like-minded people here and everyone is putting out music, playing shows, building a small following etc., this feels quite achievable!”
and
“Wow there are so many people doing the exact same thing as me, how on earth am I ever going to stand out in any way and have others care about my art?!”
I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s only one of me I guess, and as long as I stay true to myself and keep working toward the little goals I want to achieve, that’s all that matters!
I’m happy to report that I’ve now settled into my nice little apartment, found a routine-ish (including weekly surf-sessions!), started to make some new friends and figured out how to get home without using GoogleMaps! I’m glad the beginning blues has passed and I’m now really looking forward to making the most of my time here. :)
